Her brother Marius St. Croix, better known as Emplate, wanted to punish Monet for all of her qualities. So, he trapped her inside a "penance" body. Penance became Emplate's slave. Monet and Marius's little sisters, Claudette and Nicole used their mutant powers to join in one. They were hoping that their father would never learn of Marius's doings. Later, the twins decided that it wasn't fair for Monet to be trapped in the penance form. So, the twins and Monet switched bodies. The twins became trapped in the penance form and Monet went back to her normal body. Later, when Emplate attacked Generation-X to regain possession of Penance, Jubilee was furious. Jubilee created an explosion so big that it destroyed Emplate and Proudstar Hall, and it threw the twins out of the penance body. Possible Purpose in Exiles: Monet has to correct the wrinkle in time when she was never freed from the Penance body. Until she corrects the wrinkle, Monet remains a slave of Emplate.
